Britney Spears est née le 2 décembre 1981 en Louisiane. Elle a commencé sa carrière à 8 ans après avoir auditionné à Atlanta pour le Club Mickey de Disney Channel. Elle était trop jeune pour cette émission, mais un des producteurs l'a remarquée et l'a recommandée à un agent de New York. Elle a alors passé ses 3 étés suivants à New York pour suivre les cours du Centre de Danse off-Broadway et les cours de l'Ecole de comédie (Professional Performing Arts School). C'était une bonne idée puisqu'en 1991, elle réussit à décrocher un rôle dans un spectacle de Broadway.
A 11 ans, elle peut enfin participer à l'émission pour laquelle elle avait auditionné au départ. A ses côtés, on peut y retrouver les jeunes Justin Timberlake et Joshua Chasez qui font aujourd'hui partie du boys'band N'Sync.
En 1993, après que l'émission ait été retirée de la grille des programmes, Britney retourne à l'école pour un an, mais repart vite à New York pour retenter sa chance en tant que chanteuse. Bien lui en prend puisque sa cassette lui permet de signer avec la maison Jive Heard et de se mettre en relation avec le producteur Eric Foster White qui a déjà fait travailler Boyzone, Hi-Five et Whitney Houston.
Ses influences : Madonna, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, and Houston.
Début 1998, son premier album pour Jive était achevé.
Pendant l'automne 98, elle fait le tour des grandes surfaces des Etats-Unis pour promouvoir ses chansons. Le succès commence déj à se faire sentir.
Le 12 Janvier 1999, c'est le jour J : "Baby, One More Time" est dans les bacs. Et à 17 ans, elle atterrit première des hits devant ses copains des NSYNC.
Britney Spears a remporté 4 récompenses aux MTV Europe (Dublin, jeudi 11 nov. 99) pour la meilleure interprète féminine, la meilleure révélation, le meilleur nouveau titre et la meilleure interprète pop.
Ses deux albums suivants, Oops!... I Did It Again et Britney sortent à un an d'intervalle. Le second opus est dans la lignée du premier et le troisième ne remporte pas autant de succès que les deux premiers disques.
La chanteuse cherche ensuite à percer dans le cinéma, tout en continuant la musique. De ce côté-là, ce n'est pas gagné. Elle décroche son premier grand rôle au cinéma dans Crossroads de Tamra Davis début 2001. Le succès n'est pas au rendez-vous et la critique descend Britney en flammes. Celle-ci fait une apparition quelques mois plus tard dans Austin Powers in Goldmember. Elle y joue son propre rôle.
Au fil des mois, l'image de la jeune fille modèle qui affirmait ne pas vouloir avoir de relations sexuelles avant le mariage s'effrite. On découvre finalement qu'elle fume, qu'elle aime faire la fête et consommer de l'alcool. Elle avoue surtout en 2003 avoir eu des relations sexuelles avec Justin Timberlake, son petit ami de longue date dont elle est aujourd'hui séparée et avoir touché à la drogue par curiosité. Elle déffraie également la chronique début janvier 2004 en ayant la plus courte union de toute l'histoire des célébrités s'étant mariées à Las Vegas : moins d'une journée avec un ami d'enfance Jason Alexander.
